LIFE IS SWEET

La Dolce Vita revisited

Retrace the footsteps of Marcello Mastroianni and Anita Ekberg on a private tour of Rome’s magnificent city centre. You will discover the backdrops featured in Federico Fellini’s award-winning, groundbreaking, much-acclaimed 1960 cinematographic milestone and relive some of the best-loved scenes in movie history. The film follows gossip columnist Marcello Rubini, whose job is to chronicle the hedonistic “sweet life” of aristocrats and celebrities, on a 7 day and night journey through the capital.

Your guide will lead you on an unforgettable jaunt past Rome’s majestic fountains, across world-famous piazze, down picturesque cobblestone streets and throw light on the masterpieces you will see along the way. Your tour will begin in Largo Federico Fellini, the square named after Italy’s visionary film director. From here enjoy a leisurely stroll along the refined Via Vittorio Veneto, lined with luxury hotels, shops and cafes, once a hub for VIPs and intellectuals and the very heart of Roman Dolce Vita in the 60s. Reach Piazza Barberini, graced by Gian Lorenzo Bernini’s Triton Fountain, and then head for Piazza del Quirinale to soak up a beautiful panorama from the top of one of Rome’s famed seven hills. Descend towards the Trevi Fountain where the voluptuous Anita Ekberg took a dip dressed in a black evening gown. Be careful not to imitate her or you might risk a fine! But you may indeed toss a coin into the basin for good luck and to ensure a return trip to Rome.

Proceed towards Piazza di Pietra, site of the remains of an ancient temple dedicated to Emperor Hadrian, and then on to Piazza della Rotonda. Here you will admire one of the oldest, best-preserved and most spectacular buildings in Rome: the Pantheon. With its vast bronze doors and awe-inspiring dome – one of the largest unreinforced concrete domes in existence – it still fascinates visitors today, almost two thousand years after its completion. In the nearby Piazza Navona lend an ear to an account of the famous artistic rivalry between Borromini and Bernini to whom we owe the Church of Sant’Agnese in Agone and the stunning Fountain of the Four Rivers. Next, walk along Via dei Condotti, flanked with haute couture boutiques of famous Italian and international fashion designers, until you find yourself in Piazza di Spagna with its world-famous monumental stairway of 135 steps leading up to the Church of Trinità dei Monti. Your tour will end in true Dolce Vita style sipping a refreshing glass of prosecco… cheers! Life can’t get much sweeter than this!
