Famous worldwide for its flamboyant Baroque architecture and rich chocolate temptations, Modica is receiving increasing attention from foodies for its vibrant culinary scene. Spend an afternoon in one of the town’s most renowned kitchens and learn how to master the stellar art of Sicilian cooking. In the setting of a historic noble palazzo, under the guidance of a top-rated chef, you will learn how to create two exquisite dishes.

Known as the “Cook of the two Sicilies” due to his extensive knowledge of both western and eastern Sicilian cuisine, your host has become one of Modica’s most famous attractions. Born in Sciacca in 1976, he graduated from a local hotel school and spent the following years working alongside highly acclaimed chefs far from his homeland. His dedication and willingness to learn from some of the leading lights in the field led him to travel to the Dolomites, Frankfurt and Milan. But the call of his native Sicily was eventually the force that brought him back to the island where, in 2005, he inaugurated a restaurant in Modica. His creative reinterpretation of traditional regional dishes, strict use of prime quality, locally sourced ingredients and superb culinary skills soon resulted in the distinction of being awarded a Michelin star.

In 2014 your chef pursued his dream of opening and managing a restaurant of his own. It is here that he delights food lovers with his cuisine, which he describes with the following words: “it evokes my childhood memories at the sea and in the fields, the lunches under the shade of the trees, the harvesting of olives, the scent of the sea. Here, everything looks like me, in the intimacy of a home that I feel is mine and where I am happy to welcome my guests.”

In the wake of the restaurant’s success and driven by the desire to share his passion with enthusiastic gourmands, your chef decided to open the doors of his kitchen and reveal his tasty secrets in hands-on cooking lessons. Only the very best ingredients, carefully selected by the chef himself and produced by local farmers, feature in the classes. Participants will enhance their cooking know-how, understand the importance of eating seasonally and have fun recreating two traditional Sicilian dishes with a contemporary twist.
