ROME ON THE RUN

Early morning sightseeing jog

Combine sightseeing and physical exercise on an early morning jogging tour with your private guide. Staying fit and keeping to your daily work out when on vacation is not an easy task… especially with all the tempting delicacies Rome has to offer! No worries, we have created the perfect solution. This healthy, cultural activity couples history with sports allowing you to make the most of your time in the capital – without feeling overcome by pangs of guilt.

At dawn, as the city awakens, Rome’s stirring beauty can be relished at its best. Breathe in the crisp morning air and admire the views of Baroque fountains, archaeological ruins and Neoclassical piazze before the crowds and cars start flooding into the streets. You will set the pace and enjoy a completely customised tour which may begin either outside your hotel or at a different location, depending on your interests. Along the route stop to find out more about well-loved landmarks and the part they play in the story of Rome.

As you may well know, Ancient Romans were sports lovers too and engaged in a variety of physical activities, including racing, swimming, boxing, wrestling, horseback riding and ball games. Fitness and agility were as highly regarded then as they are today. You’ve come to the right place!

Your jogging tour might lead you past the city centre’s famous squares and picture postcard sights, including the monumental stairway in Piazza di Spagna, Bernini’s Fountain of the Four Rivers in Piazza Navona, the marvellous Trevi Fountain and the beautifully preserved Pantheon.

Visitors interested in archaeology might like to jog along Via dei Fori Imperiali, which offers beautiful vistas over the Roman Forum, and past the Colosseum, where gladiator fights took place over 2,000 years ago amidst the rallying cheers of noisy supporters. The Circus Maximus, one of the oldest and largest sports stadiums ever built, is ideal for a morning sprint. Here intrepid charioteers engaged in this deadly sport, risking their lives – and sometimes gaining glory – as they competed in thrilling but perilous races. The Appian Way, flanked by ruins of ancient mausoleums, thermal baths and aqueducts, is another recommended location – if you don’t mind the ancient cobblestones.

Another hit with visitors is Villa Borghese – Rome’s favourite public park – whose lawns and pedestrian-only paths offer a green, tranquil setting for garden-loving joggers.
