MUSICA MAESTRO!

Andrea Bocelli’s summer concert

Listen to one of the world’s greatest singing talents on an inspiring summer concert in Tuscany. In July tenor and songwriter Andrea Bocelli will perform in the open-air amphitheatre of the Teatro del Silenzio surrounded by the charming countryside of Lajatico, his hometown. Enjoy a full-day Tuscan immersion and end your evening on a high note, listening to the melodies of the celebrated Maestro.

In the morning you will meet your private driver outside your accommodation and relax on the ride to the walled hilltop town of Volterra. With its narrow cobbled streets, sweeping panoramas and artistic treasures the town is sure to please travellers in search of a peaceful break. The area is known to have been inhabited as far back as the Neolithic era but the city as we know it today has Etruscan origins. Remaining portions of the Etruscan walls and temples, together with the artefacts housed inside the Etruscan Museum attest to the town’s founding in the 6th century BC. It was later conquered by the ancient Romans, governed by powerful bishops in the Middle Ages and eventually came under the rule of Florence and the Medici family during the Renaissance.

Traces of all these historical phases unravel as you roam Volterra’s picture postcard streets and squares. You’ll come across remains of a 1st century BC Roman theatre, medieval walls, piazze and tower-houses as well as a Renaissance fortress. The town is especially famous as a centre of excellence for the production of alabaster objects, a centuries-old craft practised here since Etruscan times, when yesteryear’s citizens of Volterra chose this material around 300 BC to create vases, cinerary urns, decorative objects and sculptures. You can browse a range of artefacts skilfully created and tastefully displayed in workshops scattered across the centro storico.

After some independent sightseeing, rejoin your driver and set off for the Bocelli Farmhouse. Here you will be greeted by Andrea Bocelli’s brother Alberto and his wife Cinzia, take a tour of the vineyards and enjoy a wine tasting experience at the Bocelli wine cellars… if Fortuna, the Roman goddess of luck, is still around you might even get the chance of toasting with the Maestro himself!

You will later reach the Bocelli Restaurant in Lajatico for a tasty lunch followed by a visit to the Bocelli Museum where you will learn more about the tenor’s life and spectacular career. Born in 1958, Bocelli has recorded 15 solo albums, sold 80 million records worldwide and teamed with some of the best voices in the business, including Luciano Pavarotti, Sarah Brightman and Céline Dion.

In the afternoon return to your accommodation in Tuscany, freshen up and get ready for the evening. At 6:00 pm your chauffeur will pick you up and drive you to the Teatro del Silenzio. After a pre-concert aperitif, take your seat and enjoy the show.

Before heading back to your accommodation, sit down to a traditional Tuscan dinner washed down with local wine at a nearby trattoria… cheers to a lyrical Tuscan day!
