Ponza is the main haven of the Pontine archipelago, a collection of islands of volcanic origin scattered across the Tyrrhenian Sea between Rome and Naples. A popular retreat for Roman vacationers and celebrities seeking respite from the commotion of the capital – as well as from the over-crowded summer hotspots – Ponza delights visitors with its jewel-toned waters, splendid landscapes and charming fishing village atmosphere. The Aurunci are believed to have first inhabited the island and created a settlement here as far back as 1500 BC. In Ancient Roman times Ponza was used as a prison island for illustrious exiles and even members of the imperial family were lucky enough to be segregated on this arcadia, following an unsuccessful conspiracy against Emperor Caligula. Sacked by the Saracens in the Middles Ages, Ponza was abandoned until the 18th century when, under the rule of the Bourbons, the island was re-populated with colonists from Campania and the island of Ischia.

Outside your accommodation in Rome you will meet your professional chauffeur who will drive you to the heliport. Step aboard your private helicopter and enjoy a 40-minute ride to the pretty island of Ponza. Take in stunning panoramic views from cloud nine as you fly above the Roman countryside, Latium’s coastline and the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean Sea. On a clear day you might be able to catch a glimpse from a distance of one or two of the capital’s major monuments.

Upon arrival in Ponza, a taxi driver will escort you to the port. Here your private skipper will be waiting ready to lead you on a boat excursion along the island’s coastline. You will explore hidden coves, snorkel in limpid waters, see what is believed to be an old Roman fish pond and admire the island’s amazing rock formations, dramatic cliffs and candy-coloured houses just as Neptune might have done from his privileged view point.

Enjoy some time at leisure for lunch at one of the port’s eateries and relish slices of local life as you explore its shops, cafes and fishmongers.

Later rejoin your taxi driver for a comfortable ride by car across the island – stopping for snapshots of the major highlights along the way – before flying back to Rome on your private helicopter.
